…Two more days and we entered an other small town. We had some contacts that we had gotten in the last town, so when we were close enough to get some cell phone coverage, we called Keith. He invited us to stay at one of his houses in town, which was under construction, but had a huge fenced garden, where the horses had enough grass for weeks. We set up our camp under a beautiful willow behind the house. There was even a carport that the horses loved to hang out under. We were actually happy to have a shelter for the horses, when later in the week of our stay it rained and hailed really heavily. Only the carriage got wet as it had to make up for a missing part of the fence.
We couldn’t believe it, when our host offered us a car for as long as we needed it. He seemed really serious about it, so we accepted and got to explore the area a little faster (driving in a car after travelling on the carriage for so long, was really hard on me and Rosie) we got to enjoy the local hotsprings for a little while and ended up looking for property to purchase in the area.
We also looked at the subdivision in the mountains, that we heard about. We forgot to carry our paper maps and couldn’t find the spot on the phone, but when we got close, we stumbled upon Dennis and his wife whom we had met before, they were shoveling snow to get into the driveway to the estates. With some hard work, together we broke the ice and opened a door to a potential new life.
We found a decent sized cabin, that according to Dennis had not been used for a while… we found out the owner’s info and managed to get him on the phone- after he hung up on us three times, thinking it was a spam call (we had a good lough about that when we met him in person just a few days later)
And what a coincidence. He was just getting ready to post the place for sale, he really loved our story and wanted us to get the cabin, if we really wanted it. He made us a really good offer…
One might think that was an easy decision for us… trust me, it is not! We have been thinking back and forth for weeks now, have gotten ready to pack up and go, more than once. Maybe scared of the commitment but some actual fear of how we are going to survive the cold winter with so much snow, how do we make everything work soooo remote and really off the grid…
We will see…..
