11.06.2025 – Two Worlds
Being in a town after traveling in the wilderness felt refreshing at first, we could feed our addictions with chocolate and beer… but very soon, we also noticed that it drained us – of energy and money.
We felt strong and healthy when we arrived, but soon got lazy and hopeless… I guess that’s the energy of cities and the “smell” of normal life these days… It requires determination and strength of mind to stay happy and sane when watching the news and struggling with everyday life…
For us a reminder of what we left behind and why we chose this lifestyle instead. But for most people, it seems like an inevitable reality.
So, when we were finally ready to leave for our wild home again, we were six instead of eight. Getting ready in the morning got much easier, packing the carriage and no extra pack horse was less trouble and not having to look back, worrying if Wish will catch up again, made travelling much easier.
We felt lighter again. Still we didn’t get going from the fairgrounds until early afternoon.
Driving out of town was similar like driving into it. It felt like an endless road until we felt the wild spirit again.
We drove by countless horse pastures being the other horse’s attraction of the year… never saw a horse look so confused 😀 One of them: a huge Belgian stallion, tried to impress our girls but they coped really well with this kind of encounter and only looked a little bit, because he was quite handsome.
They lost interest quite quickly, when the big boy couldn’t keep up with their trot for even a hundred feet… because he needed a hooftrim real badly…
When we finally left the high desert and entered the forest an the mountains again, we felt so relieved! We followed a crystal clear mountain stream that was surrounded by meadows for a while.
The first good place with fresh spring water, and good grass was ours. We setup camp and watered the horses. Then we spent the rest of the day at the stream. I played with Rosie in the water for hours. She preferred to stay in the shallow side stream, but still managed to get wet all over. We looked at all the pretty rocks and found some special ones. Some that looked like petrified wood and some with patterns that looked like the veins of a leave. We watched the little fishies and even found and caught a big crayfish (that was a first for me too!) I washed myself in the ice cold and crystal clear water washing off the dust of the city and reconnecting with mother nature.
Peer was chilling with the horses in the shade, feeling like the first day of vacation. It was the first time that we didn’t have any horse trouble and the mares seemed to enjoy the peace as well. Also not having to worry about anyone stealing our food feels good too… (Wish stole 150$ worth of Spanish ham that was a fundamental part of our travel nutrition before we fully decided to rehome her…).
It really felt like coming home again. None of us missed the hotel or the stingy hay. We slept better than ever and continued our journey early on the next day.
