07.06.2025 – Socialising
Before entering the Recreational area of our first lake in southern Oregon, we had to master a pass, on which we had the first cell service ever, since we started out about two weeks ago. We were able to let our dear Neighbor know, that we’re alive and where we are staying for the weekend. We have had barely any contact to other human beings, so we were very happy about his surprise visit. The whole family came and they brought meat and fruits and veggies… all the fresh stuff we hadn’t seen in a while. For us it was a nice break from being all by ourselfs in the wilderness and for them, it was an exciting insight into a live they could not have Imagined. We had a barbeque over the fire, The Kids played, we went for a swim (for Rosie the first time in such big water ever since she was a little beach-baby about three years ago).
The Day before, we had been invited for dinner by our neighbors at the lake. Three generations of their family welcomed us at their beautiful Lake house and gave us plenty of new ideas of how to proceed our journey, which palaces to visit and contacts of people who could host us. I think they enjoyed our stories as much as we enjoyed their hospitality. Big thanks to The Childress Family!
Our Next step is to visit the first town along our trip! We have decided, that we had to find homes for Gandalf and Wish. Both were not doing well on travelling, for several different reasons. This kind of life is not for everyone, I guess in some way that’s either in your blood or it is not. Gandalf was going more and more crazy, while wish could just not handle it physically.
The way to town was one long day with endless asphalt roads and traffic. The dogs were riding on the carriage, for their comfort and for safety reasons.
As we were approaching the city, it seemed like people already knew that we were coming. We looked into many phone cameras that day which felt strange, but I guess, that’s their way of saying “we like what you do”.
We made it to the fairgrounds, where we boarded the horses, one of our new friends from the lake helped us out by bringing hay there. We treated ourselfs with a hotel stay, restaurant and supermarket shopping. What an absolutely cool thing to have a public DIY Horse boarding facility in every small town. Rodeo/fairgrounds, is something special in the US, that helped us a lot! It felt so good to know the horses were safe after so many restless nights of making sure no one runs off or gets himself hurt.
We were even able to take Rosie to the Circus, that stopped by in the days that we stayed there. She thought it was way too loud and she would have preferred to use the slide they brought over watching them do strange things 😀 but we all enjoyed ourselves and had time to “sell” Gandalf and find a home for Wish. One of our neighbours who knows her well took her. With Gandalf it was harder. I didn’t think it would be SO hard for us to sell such a pretty horse with amazing pictures and a nice Ad all over the internet… he admittedly has his problems, but also a lot of experience too and would have made a great lead line pony for kids… Rosie always loved riding him and I trusted him a lot with her… We got so desperate to get rid of him, because he troubled our whole herd and made me mad all the time, that we went to the vet, to ask if they had an idea… anything… an assistant ended up taking him for 100 bucks… for a beautiful and healthy horse (mentally not quite though) and year of training… good deal for her, I guess…
